چکیده

We analyzed a special-purpose dataset containing times at which flights crossed concentric circles at various distances from six major US airports in July 2001. We converted the circlecrossing information into effective speeds along four flight segments defined by the circles. Working with data in 15 minute intervals, we correlated the segment speeds with runway loading, defined as expected arrival demand relative to runway capacity. We find that effective speeds of arriving traffic vary with their physical distance from the runway and their temporal distance from runway congestion. These traffic flow characterizations are made visible in a new data display developed in this paper. We thus have developed a new spatio-temporal characterization of arrival traffic flow that should be useful in efforts to understand the operation of this complex system.

A Statistical Analysis of the Aircraft Landing Process

Managing operations of the aircraft approach process and analyzing runway landing capacity, utilization and related risks require detailed insight into the stochastic characteristics of the process. These characteristics can be represented by probability distributions. The focus of this study is analyzing landings on a runway operating independent of other runways making it as a single runway. ...

MULTI-OBJECTIVE MATHEMATICAL MODELING OF AIRCRAFT LANDING PROBLEM ON A RUNWAY IN STATIC MODE, SCHEDULING AND SEQUENCE DETERMINATION USING NSGA-II

Runway length is usually a critical point in an airport system so, a great interest has been created for optimal use of this runway length. The most important factors in modeling of aircraft landing problem are time and cost while, the costs imposed on the system because of moving away from target times have different performances in terms of impact. In this paper, firstly, aircraft landing pro...

Departure Runway Scheduling at London Heathrow Airport Extended Abstract

London Heathrow airport is one of the busiest airports in the world as it is very popular with both airlines and passengers. The capacity of the departure system at Heathrow is limited by the capacity of the runway. It is therefore imperative to maximise the throughput of the single available departure runway. Aircraft taxi from the stands to the ends of the runway where they queue in holding p...

Hybrid Genetic-cuckoo Search Algorithm for Solving Runway Dependent Aircraft Landing Problem

As the demand for air transportation continues to grow, some flights cannot land at their preferred landing times because the airport is near its runway capacity. Therefore, devising a method for tackling the Aircraft Landing Problem (ALP) in order to optimize the usage of existing runways at airports is the focus of this study. This study, a hybrid Genetic-Cuckoo Search (GCS) algorithm for opt...
